How can I apply for the Oakland Great Plates Delivered Program or refer eligible participants?
You can enroll in the Oakland Great Plates Delivered program in 2 ways:

Am I eligible for Oakland Great Plates Delivered if I participate in other state or federal-funded nutrition programs, such as CalFresh?
Unfortunately, if you are already participating in another program, you are not eligible to participate in the Oakland Great Plates Delivered Program.
I really like this program, can I suspend my participation in another program, such as CalFresh to join this one?
No, do not suspend your participation in the other programs. This is a temporary program ending on March 8, 2021. Other long-term programs such as CalFresh, have long waitlists.
How do I qualify for the Oakland Great Plates Delivered?
In order to participate in this program you must be a resident in Oakland who need access to healthy and nutritious meals and meet the following criteria:
- 65 or older, or
- Age 60-64 and at high-risk by the CDC
- 60 years or older and tested positive for COVID-19 and does not require hospitalization but needs isolation or quarantine
- 60 years or older and was exposed to COVID-19 and does not require hospitalization but needs isolation or quarantine
- Live alone or with one other program-eligible adult
- Are not currently receiving assistance from other state or federal nutrition assistance programs like CalFresh/Snap or Meals on Wheels
- Earn less than $74,940 (single) or $101,460 (2-person)
Do you verify my income or that I can’t obtain or prepare my own meals?
We will ask about your income and ability to obtain and prepare meals during the screening process. You will self-attest to these questions. We will not ask for your proof of income.
I have special dietary needs. Is Great Plates Delivered able to meet these needs?
On the form to sign up for the program you can indicate if you need any special dietary considerations. We may not be able to accommodate all dietary preferences. We are taking into account the dietary needs for health, religions, and personal reasons in the selection process for the restaurants participating in the program.
What does it cost to participate?
There is no cost to eligible participants.
How long does the Oakland Great Plates Delivered run for?
The program ends on March 8th.
After applying for the Oakland Great Plates Delivered program how long will it take for me to get my first meal package?
Once you submit the intake form on our website, you will receive a response within 2 - 3 business days confirming your eligibility.
If you enroll for the program on the phone, we will ask you a set of questions to confirm eligibility at that moment.
After enrollment, when should I expect my meals?
You should expect your first delivery 5 business days from the date you enrolled.
How many seniors will receive assistance?
The City aims to assist all qualified seniors in Oakland through Great Plates Delivered.
How many meals per day will be available to me?
Monday, Wednesday & Friday - 4 meals per delivery (2 lunch + 2 dinners). We aim to cover lunch and dinner needs for six days.
Can I choose my restaurant?
Unfortunately, no. Restaurants are assigned based on delivery capacity, dietary needs, among many other factors.
What safety precautions are being taken?
Business and individuals providing delivery of meals will complete a background check to ensure safety of participants. All restaurants have passed Alameda County health inspections, and restaurant owners and managers will closely monitoring the symptoms of their staff.
I don’t live in Oakland, can I still get meals?
You will not be able to participate in Oakland’s Great Plates Delivery program, but there may be other options for you.

Who will be delivering my meals?
The Oakland Great Plates Delivered program partners with different couriers to provide deliveries. All couriers will be background checked and will conduct contactless deliveries. Couriers will deliver the meals to the location as outlined in the delivery instructions. You will receive a text or call from the courier to let you know the meals are in the delivery location.
What happens if I miss my delivery?
We will attempt to redeliver the meal package on the same day, if you are unavailable we may attempt to redeliver the following day.
What happens if my meals are not delivered?
We conduct deliveries until 4:00PM on Tuesdays, Thursday and Friday. If it’s after 4:00PM please contact the Oakland Great Plates Delivered hotline at (408) 351-8238 and select option 3. We will attempt to locate your meal package.
How do I update my delivery address, delivery instructions, or remove myself from the program?
