Menu Modifiers are available in OTG Creator
The new POS system in the OTG Creator App now includes item modifiers. This will allow you to create customizable options for all your menu items including — toppings, add-ons, or special requests.
For example: You have a burrito as a menu item, but you’d like to give your guest the option to modify or choose their protein. (ie: chicken, carne asada, pork, vegetarian, etc.)
Why use modifiers? Modifiers will help you standardize all of your adjustable menu items when creating menus and processing orders.
To set up modifiers for your menu you will need to follow these steps:
- Create or update your Public Sale Menu (From OTG Desktop Platform or OTG Creator App)
- Create your Item modifiers (From OTG Desktop Platform or OTG Creator App)
- Apply modifiers to menu items (From OTG Creator App)
1-Create/update your current Public Sale Menu
Before creating your modifiers, you should create or update your current Public Sale Menu. You can create or update your Public Sale Menu from the Desktop OTG platform (OXP) or on OTG Creator App.
The Public Sales Menu is the full menu selection from which your OTG Guests can order from during your upcoming event. It is important that this Public Sale menu is current and up to date, showcasing all the food items available to order.
Please note, you can always adjust your menu on the spot from OTG Creator, but we strongly encourage you to have it ready at least 24 hours before your service starts to guarantee the best experience for your guests.

2-Create your Item Modifiers
There are 2 ways to create Item Modifiers. You can create them straight from the OTG Creator App or on the OXP Desktop.
==> From the OTG Creator App:
- Go to the “Items” section to manage your menu.
- Tip: Modifiers should ideally live in their own menu, separate from menu items. You could Create a new Modifier Menu from OXP and then add all of your modifiers to it.
- Click on + Create item button to start creating your modifiers as primary items. Each modifier will have it's own item page, where you will need to specify required fields as:
- Name/Title
- Description
- Category - We recommend selecting one of the “options” category for all your modifiers
- Price - If there is no extra cost, use 0
- Tax - If you charge tax, this setting should be selected for each item. (only in OTG Creator)
Continue with step 3 to create all of your modifiers.
==> From OXP Desktop:
- Login to OXP with your credentials
- On the left hand side, under Creators, select Food Menus
- Click on Add Menu to create a new Modifier Menu to add all of your modifiers to (or select an existing Modifier Menu) - (Tip: Modifiers should live in its own menu, separate from menu items)
- Click on + Add Menu Items to create the modifier item.
- Name/Title
- Description
- Category - We recommend selecting the “Options” category for all your modifiers
- Price - If there is no extra cost, use 0
Continue with step 3 to create all of your modifiers
After all your modifiers have been created, you can start pairing or adding them to menu items.
3-Apply Modifiers to menu items
Modifiers can only be paired with menu items from the OTG Creator App.
To pair or apply modifiers to your menu item go to the OTG Creator App:
- Find your Public Sale Menu and look for the menu item that you want to pair with modifiers.
- Click on the three dots menu icon on the right side to edit the menu item.
- Click on the “+ Add” Icon to add a new modifier option.
- Add additional details to the modifier:
- Define the item by selecting one of the following:
- Choose your add-ons
- Choose your fillings
- Choose your protein
- Choose your sauce
- Choose your side
- Define the item by selecting one of the following:
- Is it required? Make sure you get this one right, so it doesn't slow you down during in-person checkout.
- How many modifiers can be selected? Do guests just choose one? Or can they select up to 4 or unlimited? This step will allow you to make those selection rules
- Select the modifier items: From your pre-set Modifier list and define additional cost
- Tax - If you haven’t done so, verify this setting. If you charge tax for the modifier, this setting should be selected.
4-Validate and confirm your Public Sale Menu
At the beginning of an Off the Grid Experience, verify and confirm your Public Sale Menu is correct with modifiers.
- Launch the POS terminal
- Click on the “Items for Sale” tab
- Find your Public Sale Menu (or whichever menu you plan on using for the day) from the drop down
- This will be the menu that guests will see from the OTG Experience App, if they want to order something.
